HIGHLIGHT | Project Room - Galleria Michela Rizzo 

The program HIGHLIGHT, the project room of Michela Rizzo’s gallery continues with works of Maurizio Pellegrin. The artist comes back to to Venice and to the Galleria Michela Rizzo with three artworks, ruled by the color red.

Alcuni was part of the great exhibition Isole (2001) that was spread throughout Venetian museums (Ca Pesaro-Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna, Museo Correr, Palazzo Ducale, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Museo d’Arte Orientale, Museo di Palazzo Mocenigo, Ca’ Rezzonico - Museo del Settecento Veneziano, Museo Storico Navale).

It has been reproduced on the cover of the volume of Charta and its informative brochure. Alcuni contains some very rare drawings belonging to the early works of the artist then used as fragments of this work. These drawings are portraits in graphite and charcoal drawing on paper. Portraits of people he met in his youth that symbolically create a sort of membership group, a gallery of silences, a series of silent witnesses of an era gone by.

La spugna rossa is part of a unique series of objects confined inside old glass bells. This is one of the six artworks showed in 2005 at the Biblioteca Marciana of Venice. The objects lie in the silent cuddle of the bells. They are confined in the repetitiveness of their own energy which cannot leave them. That suggests permanence and immortality. Here everything is the substance and the container itself is the substance of the external world. 

The recent works Memory of a red Venice #1, #2, #3 are part of a series in which every work is composed by three paintings on paper created with a memory of Venice. In the central papers: Venice coming into sight through the image of the Basilica di San Giorgio; the faraway Venice, on its geographical map as remembered by the artist, Venice imagined under the rain.
