Galleria Michela Rizzo is pleased to announce the inauguration of the collective exhibition IN BETWEEN / VIEWPOINTS, by Rashad Alakbarov and Matthew Attard.
Through iron fragments installed and arranged together according to rigorous scientific criteria, Rashad Alakbarov projects the viewer into the universe - romantic and dark - of shadows.
Like a show in the Chinese shadow theatre, actors are the fragments of iron piled up with calculated disorder, meaning and message are the shadow, which loses the harshness of the figurative contours reaching the spectator deprived of any roughness.
Passing the iron sculptures, apparently abstract and devoid of figurative and object value, the viewer captures the artist's message in the projection of the shadow of the sculpture itself which sometimes becomes a drawing, sometimes a text.
Wire and plexiglass plates in the works of Mathew Attard, also apparently fragments of abstract sculptures, become a figurative drawing in the hands - or rather in the gazes - of the user, who is ultimately responsible for completing the work. Looking for the point of view favourable to perceptual fulfilment, the viewer immediately traces sculptures of female bodies. Almost resolving the irreducible abstract-figurative historical question, Attard's works raise, among others, the question of attention and independent observation.
Not the ultimate goal but the design process unites the two artists on display: the two works show us how the viewer's ease in instinctively reconstructing the images presented is possible only as a consequence of a long and complex scientific - therefore rational - calculation process. - the creation of the work by the artist.
