DINAMOGRAMMI – group show
The exhibit set up at the Michela Rizzo Gallery in Venice outlines through the use of maps the persistent complexity of art, the labyrinthine path of the sign in the culture of the Western World, shifting from the iconic to the aniconic, from the semantic to the asemantic.
The Greek-derived term Dinamogramma (in English, Dinamogram, from dynamis, meaning power, strength, energy, movement, and from grammatiké, meaning structural constituent of sentences, syntagma, words, derived, in turn, from gráphein, meaning writing and from gràmma, meaning literal element) titling the exhibition, refers to the common denominator that connotes the artists and their works. A dynamic energy of the gesture of writing that renders it performative, thus inducing the viewer to perceive its mental motivation, the physical action, the psychic impulse, and the neural reaction which underlie it, then materializing it, visually, in the final sign trace.
In this exhibit, the neo-avant-garde of Balestrini, Blank, and Ferrari is confronted with the contemporaneity of Fincato and Attard, and the analogical aesthetic condition does not cease to prevail over the digital, which is practiced by the young Attard.
In the dialectics between affinities and differences, the exhibit cannot refrain from showing the ethical, psychic and political Labyrinthos of the western man, the impulses of desire, the transgressions of the rule, the pitfalls of the Cultural Industry of a mass consumer society. The use of words such as dinamograms, as a possible reference to engrams, the free combinations of authors and works, lacking of any logical or chronological reasoning, which are often mimetic, thematic or associative, call into question an inescapable figure such as the German art historian and researcher Aby Warburg and his Law of Good Neighbourliness, which he outlines in his Bilderatlas/Atlas of images and in the Library at the Warburg Institute in London (KBW). Sometimes, original associations and interpretations arise from changes of context and combinations of different eras, as shown by the artistic proposal at Galleria Michela Rizzo.
