Bologna, January 16, 2020 - Villa delle Rose continues the enhancement of artists active on the international scene by proposing, from January 18 to March 22, 2020, the first solo show in an Italian museum by Antoni Muntadas (Barcelona 1942), entitled Muntadas. Interconnections, curated by Cecilia Guida and Lorenzo Balbi. Promoted by Istituzione Bologna Musei | MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art of Bologna, in collaboration with Artium, Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava, with the partnership of the Federico Zeri Foundation and the patronage of the Department of Arts of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, the exhibition follows on a temporal level the personal set up in the Basque Museum of Contemporary Art from 4 October 2019 to 12 January 2020. The two twin exhibitions differ in their peculiar relationship with the exhibition spaces. The exhibition in Bologna was designed specifically for the "domestic" dimension of the eighteenth-century Villa delle Rose, giving life to a path that fosters an intimate relationship with the visitor, starting with the warning that welcomes him at the entrance "Attention: the perception requires commitment ”. Muntadas. Interconnections is one of the main projects of ART CITY Bologna 2020, the institutional program of exhibitions, events and special initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Bologna in collaboration with BolognaFiere on the occasion of Arte Fiera. The exhibition presents a transversal analysis of the artist's work, ranging from the early seventies to today, establishing new fields of meaning and punctual relationships between the recurring themes in his interdisciplinary research: globalization, transnational capitalism, the notion of device , the public / private relationship, the relationship between monuments and memory, the “microphysics” of power, the interrogation of the archive, the processes of translation, the circulation of information, the political imagery conveyed by the media. The title refers to a phrase by the art and architecture historian Mark Wigley who defines the artist as "a city, rather than a person, a network of spaces of exchange that operates for long periods, rather than an individual" , highlighting the character of nomadic traveler and tireless networker that has distinguished Muntadas throughout his long career.
