David Tremlett (Cornovaglia, 1945) is from Cornwall. He is an artist who works with different media, such as sculpture, installations and drawing.<\/span><\/p>\n

His artistic initiation took place in the field of sculpture, which he cultivated through studies conducted at the Birmingham School of Art and later at the Royal College of Art in London. His artistic imagination is fueled by numerous journeys that allowed him to get in touch with different cultures, which became a source of inspiration for him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 1969 he has worked on wall drawing, using pastels that are both fragile and ethereal but also structurally strong. Tremlett is particularly interested in site-specific works, which have a limited duration in time, before being inevitably altered by the natural elements. Since the \u201870s he has produced drawings on the walls of museums, galleries and unconventional spaces such as old churches and ruined buildings: the chapel of Barolo in La Morra, in collaboration with his friend Sol LeWitt (1999), the British embassy in Berlin (2000), the church of Villeneauxe-la Grande (2005), the synagogue of Zamosc (2006), the British Council Building in Nairobi (2014), the church of Coazzolo, Asti (2017) and, more recently, in the Langhe with a site-specific project conceived for the evocative spaces of the Chapel of Relais San Maurizio, in Santo Stefano Belbo.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1992 David Tremlett was included in the list of candidates for the Turner Prize, and over time his works have been hosted in some of the most authoritative galleries and museums: from the Centre Pompidou in Paris to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, from the Musee des Beaux Arts in Grenoble to the Luigi Pecci Museum in Prato, from the Joan Mir\u00f2 Foundation in Barcelona to the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and at galleries such as the Serpentine in London, the Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo and the Nigel Greenwood in London (where the artist made his debut in 1970).<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2011, he created a special work, \"Drawing for Free Thinking\" commissioned from the Tate Britain, in which he interacts with the planimetry and architectural characteristics of the space, working with pastels that rubs directly on the wall using the palms of his hands. The following year he exhibited \"New work on paper\" at the Gallery Gering & L\u00f2pez in New York and in 2013 he exhibited a wide and varied series of wall drawings for the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
