“This exhibition has the merit of affirming an energetic position without the gesticulations and modesty of the declaration of intent; it defines the place where and from which it is possible to resist, to oppose the identical, without expressing negative force, the reaction; on the contrary, it is profoundly positive as a difference.

For the difference to emerge, it is necessary to step aside, therefore, distant, lateral, besides, no matter how close or distant, 'sensitive to the pathos of distance' we would once have said when the idea and the desire for proximity were not yet the generalized obsession of today.

This position finds a significant echo in the series called frieze project, presented for the first time, of which the embroideries are the managers.

Besides means elsewhere; designates a theoretical and physical space where to exercise forms of resistance to the present, against identity and communication, in favour of becoming.

An important aspect concerns time: the place where the event takes shape is situated alongside the uninterrupted flow of historical facts, where difference and multiplicity take shape. In itself, the event would not be something that happens together with and alongside other facts, but the condition or conditions that would allow the possibility to be actualized, the becoming to invade the real and take possession of it.

In this sense, the event is not yet a fact; however, if and when it happens, time seems to abandon its usual scan to show its eternal face. This is how the event always represents the new while opposing history, otherwise, it would not be possible to say that what is truly new emerges as 'eternity in time'. If something is truly new, in fact, it remains so forever, that its virtual potential is not lost.

The form of the event belongs to the order of the impossible, but the reason lies not in the possibility or not of becoming actual, but because it emerges independently of the reality of the situation. Correctly understood, the event is also always external to the context, it is the pure irruption of becoming aimed at depriving the present of its legitimacy and allowing the free circulation of desire, the will of the multiple and the supra-individual to assert itself, a determination that it has no name nor does it aspire to have one.

Designing a frieze project, between one embroidery and another, one after the other, I imagined an event that would happen independently of the consciousness of a subject, whose reality preceded any individual awareness.

More than twenty years have passed since I proposed a second-time idea according to which an objective judgment on art and its productions could not be formulated, and remembered that the identity of the subject is an illusion based on definitions. Only the impossible remains, to take charge of. Thousands of needles fix me to this impossibility like the insect in the window of the entomologist with a single pin. It is both space for reflection and substance of experience; and the same impossibility becomes the spokesperson for the image so that the works speak if the artist makes childish statements.
