Marcela Cernadas, Beyond Garden – Project Room
HIGHLIGHT | Project Room - Galleria Michela Rizzo
Opening November 12 2019, H 18:00
The Beyond Garden exhibition by Marcela Cernadas continues the HIGHLIGHT program, the Project Room of the Michela Rizzo Gallery.
The experimental nature of a space dedicated to this purpose allows the modus operandi of the artist Marcela Cernadas to resume, over the span of "extended time", its relationship with the garden of the gallery. The garden was an integral part of the Penelope performance presented by the artist in the fall of 2016 and resounds today, once again, in the selection of works made for Beyond Garden that ranges from collage to photography. To decipher the works of Marcela Cernadas it is necessary to place oneself on the borders of the representation - apparently figurative, even decorative - that proposes the matter in its essence: made and undone, modeled and broken up, alive and perishing. In the case of the Still Rose photographs present in the exhibition, it is the figure of the “still life” that sheds light on the question of representation right from their title; in the Loom collages, on the other hand, it is the material itself that, brought to the dust, makes the velvet fabric a “canvas” intended as a space for artistic creation. Particular attention deserves this corpus of works made with a precious fabric of the historic textile company Rubelli, which promoted this research during the last Biennale, offering Marcela an artist residence and an exhibition space on the occasion of the solo show just ended at Palazzo Ca 'Pisani Rubelli.
The proposal of the painting Beyond Garden is new, which assumes Marcela's constant attempt to trespass the representation, to hold back the events (exhibitions, happenings, performances) by attributing uniqueness to each fact. On this occasion, a small-format fresco, painted with pigmented ink, is the trace of the garden inside the exhibition hall - not by chance the neighboring spaces. A seal to the "figure of the permanent and mythical instant of the garden, which reveals and hides, which transforms everything inexorably into the hour of representation and the hour of remembrance".
